I’m Katie Thompson, and my journey into veterinary medicine began in my early years, growing up in London, Ontario, before moving to the GTA at the age of 7. It was around that time I faced the difficult decision of euthanizing my beloved kitty. The compassion and support I received from the technician during that time left a lasting impression on me, inspiring me to pursue a career as a Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT). From the age of 14, I dedicated myself to volunteering at clinics, eager to learn and help in any way I could.
I completed my Veterinary Technician program at Northern College in 2018 and didn’t stop there. I furthered my education by specializing in Rehabilitation in 2019, which also gave me the opportunity to focus on neurology and orthopedics. Before joining the NOAH team in April 2021, I gained valuable experience working at a 24-hour hospital for three years. It was in 2021 that I officially became a Registered Veterinary Technician.
Outside of my professional life, I have a variety of interests that keep me busy. I play field hockey, enjoy watching baseball, and love listening to music. My summer weekends are often spent at the trailer, and in the winter, I can’t wait to hit the slopes and ski. One of my most rewarding activities is volunteering at animal sanctuaries around the world every year.
At home, I embrace the title of a crazy cat lady, living with my six cats: Tabitha, Autumn, and Boo, my torbie triplets; Ruben, my Russian blue; Griffin, my beautiful polydactyl Bombay who followed me home from school; and Pickle, the crazy grey baby of the family. Each one has a special place in my heart, and together, they make every day an adventure.
